Unfortunately, Hollywood has taken an adult fundamental right – the right to choose one’s mate and partner – and rendered it a public decision. A Hollywood divorce is often splashed across the tabloids and discussed as if it were of fundamental interest to the universe. Privacy should be granted in most of these events because it is often stressful and painful to the families involved. On the other hand, a divorce in Hollywood is not a rare event, and the only reason for the involvement of the public at this level is because of the ostentatious behavior of many members of the Hollywood society. A Hollywood divorce may involve millions of dollars and property all over the world. Hollywood divorces make or break some attorneys.

Property Settlement

Not including the, “stuff” collected in a lifetime, the property considerations in most Hollywood divorces are almost unbelievably grand in nature. Given the fact that the union may well have only happened recently, the amount of hoopla over the process can be practically ridiculous. There are no statistics readily available, but it is clear that many of the movie stars, and other residents of the Hollywood society, regard marriage in a different light than most of society. Often, the duration of a marriage can be days, as opposed to years.

Hollywood divorces are a sign that the concept of partnership in Hollywood couples is often secondary to the need for attention in the media. Properties are bought everywhere in the first few months that a couple lives together. These properties are typically purchased with both names attached as if they are a symbol to themselves of their everlasting commitment. It appears to be a unique form of compulsion with the rich and famous to own as much as they can together, and as quickly as they can. This is the fodder that is used to make the common Hollywood divorce so interesting to the media.

Survival

There are of course some couples in Hollywood not seeking the limelight. For them a Hollywood divorce entails devastation of a lifestyle and separation after many years of a lifetime together. It is admirable to see that some marriages struggle to survive over the long term in an environment that does not necessarily support a lifetime commitment. In these situations, it is considerate and even compassionate to let these couples separate in the peace and privacy that this traumatic event warrants.
